Now that you have found a beautiful wedding dress -
and the perfect veil to go with it - the next thing is to create a
beautiful hairstyle to compliment the overall picture. Be sure to arrange
a few appointments with your hairdresser in advance of your wedding day.
She will need practice runs and you will feel at ease to relax when the
big day arrives.
The veil in this picture is attached to an elegant crown consisting of
pearls and lace. The bride’s hair is styled to complete the styling of the
crown. Her hair was dried, curled and lightly back-combed. It was then
brushed smoothly and pinned into place high on the head. The bangs are
styled into place and any hair that is too short to stay up comfortably is
curled into tendrils. The crown is then arranged on the head so that it
sits just behind the bangs. All of the remaining hair is pulled through
the opening. After securing the headpiece, small strands of hair are
curled around the stylist finger and placed around the crown. Some curls
are pinned into place while others – in places where bobby pins won’t work
- secured with hairspray. The hairstylist will move replace curls until
the perfect effect is achieved. The veil, crown and hairstyle flow
together to form a lovely frame for the bride’s face.
This elegant updo is sophisticated and softly
feminine. By replacing the headpiece and veil with a thin crown or band
made of pearls, rhinestones or ribbon, it can be just as effective for a
bridesmaid as it is for a bride.
To create this style:
- Shampoo and condition your hair with products
formulated for your hair texture.
- Towel dry and apply a firm hold styling foam or
gel.
- Blow dry and lightly spray your hair with hairspray
to give it more texture and body.
- Set your hair on hot rollers, using the small
rollers to create as much curl as possible. When the rollers are cool,
remove them and loosen the curls with your fingers.
- Backcomb lightly all over.
- Pull the hair straight up, smoothing it as you go
and pin all around with bobby pins. Make sure they are secure by
crossing the bobby pins in an X pattern. If your hair is too heavy in
back to stay up, you can style it into a twist for a firmer hold.
An important part of this elegant hairstyle is the soft tendrils falling
gracefully at the neckline. To create this soft look, pull out a strand of
hair at each ear and a few strands across the back of the style. Curl them
into soft tendrils.
The wedding headpiece or other ornamentation is put in place at this time
- before the style is completed. It should fit around your head, just
behind your bangs and over the bobby pins. Anchor it in position, using
bobby pins for extra firmness. Pull the hair up through the top and begin
to create the curls, one by one. Form the curls to fit around the crown or
ornamentation.
For all day hold, spray each curl,
including the tendrils, with a firm hold hairspray. Top off this beautiful
hairstyle with a spritz of spray shine for the perfect finish.
