Bird Flu
Aviation Influenza
It is in the news and on the minds of most of
us. How do we protect ourselves should the pandemic occur?
I’ve been told that it is not a case of
whether it will come as much as when it will be
within our borders. There is, at this time, no vaccine to prevent it
and there are few drugs to treat it. Tamiflu and Relenza are said to
help if taken at the first sign of symptoms. They are prescription drugs
and pricey but they might be a wise thing to have in your medicine
cabinet.
I’m told by medical personnel that when it
becomes freely passed from person to person and when it reaches your
area, the worst risk will pass in 13 days. During that time, you should
stay home and stay away from other people.
Prepare now by making sure you have 2
weeks supply of food and water in your home.
Build you immune system by making a habit
of good nutrition. Develop habits that build resistance to infection.
Take nutritional supplements and eat food rich in B vitamins as well as
vitamin A, C, and E, zinc, and iron.
Read about these here.
Change your snacking habits. Keep a
supply of fresh fruit and vegetables instead of candy and chips.
Drink water, juice (100% unsweetened) and green
tea instead of soft drinks.
Tighten up your regimen of sanitary habits.
Wash your hands often. Keep your hands away from
your eyes, nose or mouth, where germs most often enter your body.
