How to shampoo with tender loving care
- First, brush out any tangles that may be in your
hair before your hair is wet. If there is hairspray on your hair that is
keeping the tangles in, don’t tug on it. Shampoo the hairspray out and
the tangles will be released as well.
- Saturate your hair with warm – not extremely hot –
clear water.
- Place an appropriate amount of shampoo in your
hand. Good quality shampoo is concentrated so you will need only a small
amount. Use more for long or thick hair and less for short or thin hair.
- Rub the palms of your hands together to emulsify
the shampoo.
- Apply the shampoo to your hair, starting at the
front hairline, then to the crown and finally to the back. You may
prefer to reverse this procedure. That’s OK as long as the shampoo is
distributed evenly.
- A good hair wash consists of a gentle massage using
the pads of your fingertips. Massage in small circles and move
throughout your hair and scalp for about one minute.
- Rinse thoroughly. Using your fingers, separate your
hair so that it is thoroughly rinsed underneath as well as on top.
- One shampoo is usually enough but if you use a lot
of styling products or it has been several days since your last shampoo,
it is permissible to shampoo a second time.
- Finish with thorough rinsing! Eighty percent of
flakes found on your shoulders is nothing more that shampoo that is left
on the scalp.
Condition to preserve the luxury
- After your shampoo and rinse, squeeze out the
excess water and towel blot your hair.
- Place a small amount of conditioner in the palm of
your hand.
- Rub your hands together to emulsify the
conditioner.
- Apply the conditioner by starting at the front
hairline and working back toward the crown and the back. Again, you may
reverse this pattern.
- Use a wide toothed comb to comb the conditioner
through your hair and out to the ends.
- Leave your conditioner on your hair for the
recommended time. This is usually only 3 to 5 minutes. Longer than the
recommended time does not result in better condition.
- Again, rinse your hair thoroughly, separating your
hair so that the water gets through it all. If your hair is fine and
lacks body, this is an important step. If you have coarse of frizzy
hair, a small amount of the conditioner left in the hair is sometimes
beneficial.
Preparation for styling
- Blot your hair with a towel, making sure not scrub
or vigorously rub your hair. You want only to remove the excess
moisture. Rubbing roughs up the cuticle of the hair and can cause
frizziness and tangles.
- If your hair normally takes a long time to dry,
wrap a towel tightly around it and leave it there for 3 to 5 minutes to
absorb the maximum amount of moisture.
- Use a wide toothed comb to gently remove the
tangles. Tugging or brushing with a hair brush will damage your hair.
Remember that wet hair stretches and breaks more easily than dry hair.
